*Semen analysis is a test of a man’s semen. It evaluates the quality and quantity of sperm and is one of the primary tests used to detect male fertility issues.

*It contains fluids and male sperm which fertilize a woman’s egg to produce a child.
3. Who Needs a Semen Analysis?
*Couples who are unable to conceive a child.
*When fertility issues may be related to male factors.
*Men who have undergone a vasectomy (to confirm treatment success).
4. How is Semen Analysis Done?
*A semen sample is collected in a wide-mouthed container.
*Collection may be done:
At home, or
In a private room at the clinic.
*The sample is evaluated in a laboratory specializing in semen analysis.
*If collected at home, special storage and transport instructions will be provided.
*Since sperm count may vary daily, more than one sample (spaced a few weeks apart) may be required for accurate results.
5. How Should One Prepare for Semen Analysis?
For best results:
*Abstain from sexual activity and masturbation for 2–5 days before sample collection.
*Avoid alcohol before sample collection.
*Inform your doctor about any medications you are taking to ensure they do not interfere with results.
6. What is Analysed in the Sample?
The test evaluates:
*Sperm count (number of live sperms)
*Sperm motility
(ability to move toward the egg)
*Sperm morphology (size and shape)
*Signs of infection or inflammation
7. What Do Abnormal Test Results Indicate?
*An abnormal result does not always mean infertility.
*Your doctor will analyse the results and advise if further tests or treatment are needed.
