A hysterosalpingography (HSG) is an X-ray procedure that examines the uterus and fallopian tubes. It's often used to check for blockages in the fallopian tubes, which can affect a person's ability to get pregnant. Why it is used? *Checking for blockages in the fallopian tubes *Evaluating the shape and size of the uterus *Checking for scarring or abnormalities in the uterus or fallopian tubes Confirming that the fallopian tubes have been blocked after a tubal sterilization procedure. *How it is performed? *A dye containing iodine is injected into the uterus and fallopian tubes through cannula. *X-rays are taken to view the inside of the uterus and fallopian tubes When it is performed? *Usually performed after a menstrual period but before ovulation, between days 6 and 10 of the menstrual cycle.
